Team Member Roles
Surgeons -- Qualified surgeons with
special training in craniofacial techniques. The Clinic surgeons provide guidance
about recommended surgery, when treatment should take place and other information that you
need for your decision making.
Oral-Maxillofacial Surgeons -- Performs surgery of the bones of the upper and lower jaw and any surgery that involves the teeth.
Plastic Surgeon -- Cosmetically and functionally repairs cleft, lip and other craniofacial anomalies.
Speech Pathologist -- The therapist will periodically evaluate the child's speech and language development. The speech pathologist will identify if and when therapy may be recommended.
Orthodontist -- The orthodontist evaluates the development and relationship of the patient's teeth and jaws. If the craniofacial condition requires intervention then recommendations about braces or removable appliances will be given.
Occupational Therapist -- If the craniofacial condition is affecting the child's ability to feed successfully, then the occupational therapist will evaluate and explore, with the parent, alternative strategies and recommendations around the child's feeding.
Social Worker -- A professional available to assist you and your family in identifying needed guidance and support. The social worker can be valuable in providing practical guidance and connect you with appropriate community resources.
Audiologist -- Provides evaluation of the child's hearing and any counseling about intervention that may be recommended to avoid delays in speech and language development.
